Aeration air for Arizona
Less energy for every pound of oxygen
Pulsar Water Solutions helps Arizona utilities and their engineers cut aeration energy with Sulzer HST magnetic bearing turbocompressors, backed by local application support from Tucson.

Why magnetic bearings
Built for the conditions Arizona plants actually run in
Aeration is usually the largest electrical load in a wastewater plant. The HST levitates its rotor on active magnetic bearings before it turns, so nothing wears, nothing needs oil, and the machine can start and stop as often as the process needs.
No wear from cycling
SBR plants and deep night turndown mean frequent starts. A levitated rotor makes each start free of bearing contact.
Large internal clearances
Desert dust and hot blower rooms are hard on tight bearing films. Inlet filtration and room ventilation are part of every application review.
Flagstaff to Yuma
Rated to 8,200 ft at 480 V, covering high country plants in Flagstaff and Prescott as well as the low desert.
Savings that pay back
Replacing positive displacement blowers commonly saves 30 to 50 percent of aeration energy, and SRP, APS and TEP offer incentives for verified savings.
Model range
Sulzer HST turbocompressors
Seven frame sizes cover small package plants through large regional facilities. The compact HST 5, from 40 hp, brings the same technology to small water and wastewater plants. Multiple units run together, and alongside existing positive displacement, multistage or screw blowers.
| Model | Airflow up to | Pressure rise up to | Motor power |
|---|---|---|---|
| HST 2500 | 1,400 SCFM | 18.1 psig | 100 to 125 hp |
| HST 5 | 1,900 SCFM | 13.1 psig | 40 to 90 hp |
| HST 10 | 3,300 SCFM | 13.1 psig | 75 to 150 hp |
| HST 6000 | 4,100 SCFM | 18.1 psig | 300 hp |
| HST 20 | 4,700 SCFM | 14.5 psig | 150 to 250 hp |
| HST 30 | 9,500 SCFM | 18.9 psig | 250 to 450 hp |
| HST 40 | 10,100 SCFM | 12.3 psig | 400 to 500 hp |

Applications
Municipal water and wastewater
Activated sludge aeration
Conventional, BNR, MBR and SBR plants, from new trains to blower replacements in existing buildings.
Aerobic digestion
Digester air with the turndown to follow changing solids loads.
Advanced water purification
Well nitrified secondary effluent for potable reuse trains under Arizona's new AWP rules.
Water treatment plants
Low pressure air for water treatment processes, where frequent starts and stops suit magnetic bearings.
Package and small community plants
The compact HST 5 serves small towns, districts and private utilities that once had only positive displacement options.
Blower replacements
New units sized to fit existing blower rooms and run alongside the blowers you keep.
How we work
Support for everyone on the project
We work as a manufacturer's representative. We help select and specify the equipment, and Sulzer supplies it with factory startup and service.
Consulting engineers
- Blower sizing and application review
- Basis of design data and specification language
- Budget pricing for studies and design phases
- Lifecycle and energy comparisons
Contractors and CMARs
- Bid day scope and pricing
- Submittals and equipment drawings

- Startup scheduling with Sulzer service
Utilities and plant operators
- Blower reviews using your VFD logs, SCADA trends and power bills
- Energy savings estimates and utility rebate support
- Operator training at startup
- Parts and service coordination
Savings estimate
What could new blowers save your plant?
Enter your current running blower load. The example values describe a plant running about 200 hp of aeration blowers around the clock.
A planning estimate only. We refine it with your plant's operating data, such as VFD logs, SCADA trends and power bills, and a Sulzer selection for your conditions.
Territory
Arizona, statewide
Based in Tucson, under two hours from the Phoenix metro and within reach of every plant in the state.
